Automatic Quarry Pumping System

A disused quarry, now filled with water, required emptying to access mineral reserves and restart production. Our brief was to design an automatic control system for three submersible pumps, each controlled by VSDs.

The pump speeds are regulated via a PID loop using feedback from a flow meter to ensure a constant and accurate flow rate.

For this project, we selected a Siemens S7-1500 PLC and a Simatic Comfort Panel HMI, providing robust and efficient control with a user-friendly interface for operators.  Due to the remote location of the system, the client requested that plant alarms are immediately sent to a pre-programmed list of mobiles phones via SMS message.

Daily flow figures are also sent at the end of each shift.Remote access to the site is enabled through a secure VPN connection, offering convenient and safe system monitoring and troubleshooting.
